In this volume you’ll see the influence of Anatol Kovarsky,an underappreciated cartoonist from the ’50s. I’d found afew volumes of his work, even though most fellow cartoon-geek folks I know haven’t heard of him. I love his line andsimple, wordless work. The sketchbook ends with an essay from my work withBBC Radio. I’d finagled a weird but very cool gig to writeand record weekly pieces for a late night show that focusedon American culture. Titled A Postcard from Brooklyn, theseries was like Alistair Cooke’s Letter from America. Onlyshorter. And not as good.
